A dental bridge is a solution we use to replace one or more missing teeth. Picture it as a literal bridge, filling in the gap where teeth are missing with artificial teeth, helping to restore your smile and your ability to chew and speak properly.
Bridges are typically made from a variety of materials such as porcelain, ceramics, or metal. The choice of material can depend on factors like the location of the missing teeth, the aesthetic considerations, and your personal preference.
The most common type of dental bridge involves creating a crown for the tooth or implant on either side of the missing tooth, with the artificial tooth (or teeth) in between.
The process of getting a dental bridge usually involves a few visits to the dental office. During the first visit, we prepare the abutment teeth by recontouring them. We then take a digital impression of your teeth to serve as a model from which the bridge will be made. While we're crafting your permanent bridge, we'll provide a temporary one to protect the prepared teeth.
On your subsequent visit, we'll remove the temporary bridge and check the fit of the new one, making any necessary adjustments. Once we're certain it fits perfectly, we'll cement the bridge in place.
A well cared-for bridge can last many years. Regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental check-ups will help maintain your bridge and overall oral health. With a dental bridge, you can confidently eat, smile, and enjoy life without worrying about the gap in your teeth!
